Balance transfer from different persons card?

Do credit card companies allow balance transfers from someone elses card?

ie: I have a fairly large credit card debt with a 13.9% intrest rate. I am unable to get a loan or 0% deal as I am deemed to 'have enough credit' despite having a good credit rating.
My partner is thinking of getting a credit card in his name and transfering my balance on to it? would this be possible?

This is quite a common query to the MSE Forums. The answer is "Yes". Best not to volunteer the fact that it is someone else's card. And of course your partner will become 100% responsible for the debt in the (unlikely?) event that you do a runner.

Only thing is you cannot transfer from one card to another if both are issued by the same bank (eg you cannot transfer from a virgin card in your name to an MBNA card in partner's name as these are both issued by MBNA).

    Hi

Thanks for the advice, the cards will be to seperate banks (Natwest to Barclays) so I think that should be fine. I shall look forward to saving £100's in intrest rates.

And for the, cynical but ultimatley sensible Fruit and Nut case, it is highly unlikely :D

    Cheers
