Changing UPVC window locks?

Options
I'm moving into a new property and the window handles / furniture are all gold. They are new, but just not to my taste. I wanted to change all the light switches to chrome (as they are also gold), but now it won't look right. So can I change the window locks? I am a diy novice so I wouldn't dream of doing this myself, but can a company / joiner (not sure if that is the right tradesperson) to do this or are they fixed?

TIA.

normally they are very simple to change over to say white ones.
its really handyman job. a joiner is not really required.
    Get some gorm.
  • Thanks for the response will look for a 'handyman' then, these simple jobs are all adding up so will pop it on the 'to do' list!

We had to change a few to get ones with locks to stop the kids escaping.

Think we used handlestore.com - was very good - postage a bit pricey for a single but if your buying a few its fine.

Check what you need carefully though as there are lefts and rights and three different standard gaps as well as 3 different common closers for uvpc windows.

I learnt a lot that night - me and my old mate google.

All the better to EAT them, my dear! They don't fry so well if they can escape.

locks are normally only a couple of screws, find the right type via ebay or others and you should be able to change them yourself

You mean locking handles? Lots of places sell them and each one is attached by two screws usually accessible under a blanking plate.

God knows why people go for gold handles.............

You can get universal ones from Toolstation for about £3.50 each, the spindle length may need to be reduced to make it fit. The screw holes are 43mm apart I believe. Easy to fit.

  • Wonderful, thanks. Gold is not my cup of tea, but some love it. Then again I am finding a lot of things with this house which niggle me... artex, why oh why... but that's another story!!!

Sounds as though it isn't a big job, one which will fit into my new colour scheme and just needs a little care and attention with the sizes and handing - appreciate the advice ukjoel, wouldn't have thought of that!

Yes the locking handles, although they are new, just not my thing. Thanks for the tip.
