75th birthday party insurance - advice please?

Dear forumites,

Hoping someone can advise on this - my dad has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and is not expected to make it to christmas.

It's his 75th birthday in May and as we have family coming from all over the world so thought we may as well throw him a party with all his family and friends (about 170 of them) whilst he is well. We have never been 'well off' so he has never had a real party in a nice place so if i was to go with this idea, total cost will be about £6.5k, all in.

If anything were to happen that would mean i have to cancel the party, is there any type of insurance i can get and any advice on which companies will insure it reasonably?

Any advice much appreciated

What cover are you looking for exactly ? What cancellation reasons would you want to cover?

If you google event Insurance, you will see a number of providers. Why not give a few companies a call to discuss your requirements.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
  • I have a similar problem with a 60th birthday party next March. It's rather rural and I'd like to insure against bad weather causing travel problems for guests and entertainers :(. Googling 'event insurance' gives lots of places all wanting to include public liability (min cover amount £1,000,000!) which my venue covers, and specialising in corporate events. 'Wedding insurance' brings up similar sites. So maybe phoning round several companies is the answer?

Just want to say that a relative also got diagnosed with lung cancer and been told she had 6 months to live. That was 3 years ago, and she refused all treatment. The 'good' thing about being elderly in these cases is that the cancerous cells do not develop and spread as fast as for a younger person. God bless your family and I hope you are given a lot more time to cherish your dad.
