Collies broken claw

When we got home from our walk yesterday i noticed our year old Collies foot had blood on it, on closer inspection i could see that she had broken her claw. I washed it off and it soon stopped bleeding. It doesnt seem to be causing her any pain at all as shes still running about-no limping or anything. If you look at the claw you can see it has snapped and you can see the red inside but the end of the claw is still attached. will it just die and fall off or should i take her to the vets? Or cut off the end myself?

I know at my vets, the nurse cuts dogs claws and there is no charge for this. So maybe give your vet a call to see if they do the same.Handle every stressful situation like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it ....... just pee on it and walk away.0 -
thankyou very much-will give that a go. x0

Sorry to hear this. I had this happen to my dog, don't know how it happened but only noticed when he wouldn't put his paw down. i felt ill just looking at it, so rushed him up to the vet. They didn't do anything as he nail had by that time dropped completely off!!!! Just told me to keep it clean and dry. I was told I could spray it with Savlon which I now swear by and always keep in my first aid box, and I found a lovely brand of rubber sock(PAWZ) that looks rather like a balloon to keep it clean and dry. Did try other boots from PAH but they were quite useless.0

As above it needs to be kept clean so no infection will set in. I would give the Vet a quick call and follow their lead. Lol never a dull moment is there. xRIP TJ. This has happened to mine before. I took off what was hanging, but my dog's was pretty much off where it had snapped anyway. So I won't recommend taking it off when I don't know what it looks like.
Bathe it with salt water morning and night time, and after every walk/time he's been outside. it might be a bit tedious but an open nail is VERY prone to infection. As it starts to heal you can pop a little sudocrem on it. If it looks inflamed or gets any worse straight to the vets, as it can easily pick up germs being on the ground and can get very nasty if left when infected.0
