Thats true the newer style xbox360 uses less energy than old type so I hear
"According to official statistics released by Microsoft, the new Xbox 360 only requires 135W of power while gaming, as opposed to the 150W the existing Jasper Xbox 360 requires."
According to Microsoft, the power consumption drops to just 1W when putting the new Slim 360 into standby, a whopping 50% reduction off the 2W the Jasper uses.
But it's still more than Sony's PlayStation 3 Slim which uses just 95W while gaming or watching a Blu-ray.
Or get a ps3 which uses just 95W

We received our E.on bill today which shows a £20+ month saving. I can't put this down to anything other than the change in Xboxes.
There must be something else that has changed as £20 a month is a lot of power. Going by NeverInDebt's figures."According to official statistics released by Microsoft, the new Xbox 360 only requires 135W of power while gaming, as opposed to the 150W the existing Jasper Xbox 360 requires."
The new Xbox saves 15W of power whilst gaming....
0.015kW (the same as 15W) x 24 Hours x 31 days in a month x (I'm guessing you pay) 10p per kWh = £1.11 saving a month.
The saving will be a lot less than that as the machines aren't in constant use....Making Money :cheesy:
Even if it's not your fault, it's your responsibility.0 -
I don't know bout the new black 360, but my sons 4 yearold white 360 uses much more than I expected. iirc, I measured (on an owl so not totally accurate) 300w when turned on. On top of the xbox, there's the really chunky powewr supply too, which gets warm (and that is the microsoft replacement). Then you have to add on the tv, which in my cas is another 200w, so 500w to use the system. The discs seem to be accessed constantly when playing. So it costs about 5p/hr, or about 25p for acouple of typical daily sessions (only in uni holidays) for my partially addicted son. Can't see how you can save £20 per month!
I would have expected the xbox+power supply to use less than 100w, so I was very surprised with the readings I got.0 -
£20 per month....hmmm right lets say 10p for a good 24/7 tariff thats 200kWh per month. Divvy that out and it's about 7kWh per day. Divvy that out further over let's say 7 hours per day that's something that was rated at 1000W running all that time that the kids are home. That's a small radiator. It aint the Xbox.:footie:

I think I've got to agree with the poster above- if you really are saving £20 a month on the electricity then I'll be pitching a new advertising campaign to Microsoft pointing out that you're losing money if you don't buy a new Xbox straight away! Nonetheless, I'll be very interested to hear your updates Chris- if that does turn out to be the case I'll be having a word with my flatmate (a prolific Xbox user) about our shared electricity bill.0
