I'm about to finally get my full driving liscence...just wondering if it's costs anything to exchange my provisional for a full liscence??

I don't need to change any detaills...I would like to change the photo but don't have to...would it cost more if I did?

Thanks!

Yes it would cost more to change the photo from my memory. I think it would be the same fee as updating the card when it runs out.

If you have had your provisional licence for more than 2 years they charge you a fee for upgrading it to a full licence. Last time I checked they wanted £9 to update mine if I passed.

£20 to change the photo and this is only listed under 'replacement' for lost/stolen/defaced/destroyed. I dont think they expect people to change it for other reasons.

  • I had my provisional for 7 years before passing. And when I passed, the driving examiner took it off me and my new full licence came in the post a week or so later. Never got charged anything else.

Although now I have just had to pay out £20 to renew the photo as it is now 10 years old. As it was the same photo from the provisional. But that's a different matter.

The examiner will ask you whether you want them to send it off for you - I chose this option as it's free and then you get a pass certificate so if DVLA ever mess up you can prove that you passed.
This is what happened to me last september.

Or they will give you everything back + a pass certificate which you will need to send off to DVLA with a fee I think.
