No, not really Cardew. I think they do it simply because they can - why chance the courts, bother with credit checks, reference agencies, lose a customer hence profit etc if you simply don't have to as long as no one will challenge you on it?
Joyful, the French system of turning up & reading the meter seems reasonable / better to me (though there may of course still be cases of genuine inability to pay, people flitting without telling the supplier etc)0 -
Re #9 and #10. Yup. Bad pennies (the "exploit a charity" hands-wringer and the "commit fraud" crook) often turn up on such threads.
Needless to say I take serious offence to this! You are suggesting that I am exploiting a charity by applying to the nPower trust and that I am suggesting that exploiting a charity is something that I would endorse.
These charities are sut up and funded by the relevant energy firms and are there to help people in need of financial assistance to help them out of a bad situation, to help them get a hold on their finances so that this never happens again. My personal situation being disability meant I had to leave paid employment and that coupled with the bad winter just gone and not fully understanding my new all electric heating system, I got a bill much higher than I was expecting. The help I am hoping to get from the nPower trust will mean I can start again with a clean slate, I have got a energy monitor to help me keep an eye on my actual usage, I have 'upped' my direct debits to build up a small credit to help with the winter bills and I have asked for help understanding my new all electric heating from both nPower and here on MSE Forums. If it wasn't for the mistakes I made in the past (and learned from), I wouldn't be who and where I am today. It doesn't matter if you've cocked up, what matters is that you put it right and apologise. x0 -
How does someone apply to a charity for help if they can't afford the internet?0
