EDF changing from prepayment to monthly bills.

Options
We bought our first home 3 months ago and the gas and electric are on prepayment meters, so we looked into having them removed and the supplier at the time wanted to charge us £50 per meter to remove them. So we changed to EDF as they offered the best rate at the time and no charge to remove the meters after we had been with them for 1 month on prepayment, so now we can change, but confused on what tariff to chose and is it cheaper to move from prepayment to pay monthly?

We have worked out we use £1.12 gas a day on prepayment as heating is timed and only on for 8.5 hours a day and then electric we hardly use any as we both work and only things that are left on all day is the fridge and telephone, so works out about £25 a month. If we change to pay monthly what deal should we go for and should we pay upon bill or the estimate??

Any advice would be appreciated.

The cheapest tarioffs for credit meters are nearly always dual fuel, pay by DD, manage account online.

Why on earth do you need the heating on 8.5hrs per day. Most people have it on from 1/2-1 before they get up until 1/2hr before they leave for work in the morning and again 1/2hr before they get home from work for a couple of hours in the afternoon.

I don't know about most people Spiro but lots of people feel the cold and have the heating on for longer than you. A couple of hours in the morning while getting up and ready for work and 6 hours in the evening seems quite sensible to me. Maybe you go to bed at 8. Knocking other people's life styles is pointless and unhelpful.

OP, you should use one of the comparison sites to see what the best deal for you is. It may be that moving from EDF when the meters are changed would be cheaper.

I'm not knocking anyones lifestyle. This site is about money saving and having the heating on for 8.5hrs at this time of year seems excessive. Obviously if they have a medical problem that requires them to be warm thats different. On the other hand you hear of people who complaint about their energy bills but insist on walking round the house in shorts and t-shirts all year round - you can't have you cake and eat it.
Personnaly I get up about 5am and go to bed and 10pm but try to keep the heating to a minimum especially as it is advised that you are better of sleeping in a cool room not a hot one.

I didnt say that i was finding the bills high by having my heating on for 8.5 hours! I was just giving others example's on how much gas we use so they could recommend which is the best tariff to use on EDF.

We dont have the heating on when we are in bed and only have it on for 2 hours in the morning and then 6.5 hours in the evening, like i said at the beginning of my post we are new to all this as we have just bought our first home and need to get used to when we need on heating on etc.

I just wanted advice on which best tariff to use on EDF.

To find the best deal, use one of the switching sites. The problem is the best way to do this is to input a years consumption figure (kwh NOT £s) which you dont have. If you use your last quarters consumption and multiply by 4 use this figure. WHen the results come back DONT look at the savings bit look at the details of each tariff in terms of standing charge and tier 1/2 rates. Compare these figure with what you are paying now and look for the cheapest.

this surely would be unfair :o

the OP moved from another supplier to take advantage of the free meter replacement with edf.
