After the nightmare winter and 12 burst pipes, I've finally got around to the inevitable redecorating. The ceilings in particular had some horrendous stains.
I tried a variety of commonly available stainblockers, but found that they really are only for minor stains.
A trade contact recommended that I tried the Zinsser range. Which I did. It's not commonly stocked, so I had to use the manufacturers wesbite to find a stockist. It's also more expensive than other brands.
I used Zinsser B.I.N (this is shellac based, but there's a water based version as well), and it worked like a dream. First class product, highly recommended.

Yes BIN every time although if you are not too flush (its the best part of £50 a US gallon retail) then a spirit based undercoat will do fine - you just have to wait a considerable number of hours for it to dry - BIN does so in 15 minutes.
