A&L refer a friend £50 denied

Hi.
I have been doing the A&L refer a friend scheme for a while since reading about it on this site. However, that last time the £50 payments where not credited to my account eventhough I had followed all the same proceedures and met all the criteria. When I enquired about it I was sent a letter stating,

'...it is important that all eligibility criteria is met in order for us to credit £50...fund account within 8 weeks. Please note that transfers between A&L accounts do not contribute to the minimum monthly funding requirements'

Now, I dont recall reading that transfers between A&L didnt count, and indeed, I had done just that in the past with no problem. So, has anyone one else had this issue or know where these terms are written as I cant find any reference about it!

cheers.
Matt

This has been an issue with them for a long time. I know someone who is self employed who couldnt operate his business account with them as well as his personal as "paying himself" would be treated as a transfer. This was despite him earning over £150k a year in "paying himself".

This is not unique to A&L either with a number of banks/building societies not treating transfers as a deposit into an account for interest rate/charges purposes.

I'm in the same situation, with an account I "referred" for my mum. I got paid the referrals for the account I did for my girlfriend, and now realise I operated them differently.

I got paid when the new account for my girlfriend had over £500 of external cash deposited initially, even though subsequent monthly payments of £500 came from my own A&L account.

My mum's account never had any external funding - just transfers from my own account. I think that if you make the initial payment from external funds you would qualify.

Despite subsequent months being funded by internal transfers, I have not had any problems with the monthly underfunding charge.

I've sent a letter closing the account in my mum's name. No point to it now, plus might be able to do a new account in 3 or 4 months.
Karma is a wonderful thing. ;)
