anyone know anything about cars

Hi my car is taking 4 or 5 attempts to start up, it comes up injection fault. once its finally running it seems ok, it has been for about 4 days now.it has flashed up stop twice while i have been drivin it but then gone off as quick as its come on. It is a renualt modus 05 diesel. Anyone know what it is if not then I dont know whether to take it to a local garage or a renualt garage I dont have much money to play with and my mot is due next week too I really need my car.
also if i take it to a few garages forr quotes does it cost anything for them to have a look to see what the problem is. I really dont want to be ripped off thanks in advance

also this probably has nothing to do with it but the day before my car started to do this I had tried my spare key in the engine as I could not find my keys, but the spare key did not start my car. When I did find my keys and go out in it the day after thats when my problem started .

I think the injection fault is a generic fault light that comes on for various reasons, not necessarily to do with the injectors(I am assuming its a diesel?).

You'll need someone with a fault code reader to determine what's wrong.
