DIY Renovation question

I've just moved into a flat which needs complete redecorating/renovating - Nothing structural :j

My question is how do i tackle the project? - On a room by room basis what should the order of work be for fairly straightforward redecoration and what are likely to be difficult or problematic areas?

Trying to be fairly economical and do the majority by myself if possible.

I'm fairly competent at DIY and willing to give anything a go but the scale of a whole flat is daunting me

Help........Me! :rotfl: (please!)

I'm in the process of buying a house which is perfectly livable but imo needs a huge make over.

Me and the girlfriend have been trying to decide the order to do things and we've decided to start with the bedrooms, master, then number 2.

Then downstairs. But today I have been wondering whether to move the loft hatch and board it. :o Decisions, decisions!! lol

I am competent and willing to give any job a go like yourself and I am really looking forward to it! :D

I think it comes down to how much cash you have available! If I had the money, I'd just get it all plastered in one go and live with it as a mess for a short time but as funds are limited we're doing it on a room by room basis starting with upstairs.

If its just redecoration then start at the top and work down, ie do ceilings first then walls then skirtings and doors

What do you mean by redecorating / renovating? To me, there's a difference - redecorating is paint/paper/flooring. Renovating includes electrics, plumbing, new windows, plastering etc etc.

If it's just redecorating, I tend to just do one room at a time - usually bedroom first so at the end of the day you have somewhere nice to escape to. Then living room and then the other rooms on the basis of which one annoys me the most.

If it's renovating, then it depends on what work you need doing but it's easier / cheaper to have stuff like electrics all done at the same time - granted you live in a building site for a while but best is to get it done in one fell swoop.
