To Skype or windows live

My son told me he has just downloaded Skype for free and via his laptop has been able to see/hear someone in Australia. Having said that, with a built in webcam with microphone, one would assume he could have done that? using Windows Live or Yahoo Messenger. So what makes Skype any better?

    I find Skype far more reliable, with the others even if you can establish a connection to keep it is another matter.

    Could always be talking to someone with Skype on something like an iphone, ipad etc, they can not use windows software

    you can get WLM for iphone/ipad, but can only be used for IM and not voice chat link

    Ive always found that Windows Live Messanger and other Instant messangers that are similar, have problems with long duration webcam chats, or long distance. Skype seems to be more reliable and seems to be much easier to connect.

    new version of msn messenger is a mess/ definitely skype

    if you get a 3 Pay as you go skype or smartphone you can use skype on the go for free over 3G :D
