Lloyds TSB - is this bad or what?

At the bottom of my current account statement:

"No need for your seasonal spending to snowball - from overdrafts and credit cards to a personal loan. Pop into your branch to see how we can help."

What??? The best way to stop your spending is to not spend. But hey no they want to offer me an overdraft (but oh no they said I can't have one when I asked last month as I haven't been a customer for 9 months yet...) or a credit card at 16.9% APR or a loan at a suitably high APR instead.

Honestly. Is that encouraging people to get into debt or what? Or am I missing something.... ?

Sorry, rant over.

  • Do Tesco advertise for you to purchase from them? Do you not get inserts from your local papers with special offers? Every Sunday newspaper supplement has a Sky television leaflet in them! - Just 3 types of advertising to try and get your business - is that encouraging you to spend?
I think you are missing something but I won't say what.

While i personally hate being in debt banks would not be viable it they did not exist and as above theyv'e got to advertise them.

Just ignore the ads if you don't want anything.
  • Plus.... there's some thick people out there who rack up charges on their account without realising that they may be able to increase their overdraft and stop it. Or even talk to someone who may be able to help!

Why is it bad? If someone is going to splash out at Christmas and use debt to pay for it, isn't it better that they're being made aware of the range of products available to them?

Incidentally, is this post just sour grapes because they're marketing a product to you that you want but they won't let you have?
