Tenants not paying rent after Section 21 served

Good afternoon. I'm looking for some advice re a Section 8 notice. My mother served a Section 21 on her tenants which expires 4.5.11. They had been renting from her since Nov 2009 and rent always paid on time. Since serving the notice they have stopped paying their rent and are not answering phone calls or responding to a polite letter sent to request making a time for check out on 4.5.
So my question is, should my mum now also serve a section 8. Would this have any effect in speeding up the possession order through the courts.
thanks

You can't serve a Section 21 and have it proceed through the courts successfully unless the tenants' deposit has been lodged in one of the three approved schemes. Has this been done?
A Section 8 can't be issued until two month's rent is due. Is it? If so, your mother should just hurry up and issue it right away.0 -
