Brick quality - is it reflected in the price?

Options
Hi,

I will be purchasing some bricks for my house extension, and have been told by my builder the bricks he'll be using will be an average price of £200 - £300 per 1,000 bricks.

However, if I decide to go for a branded brick e.g. Ibstock then I'd have to be prepared to pay £500 per 1,000 bricks. The builder said I'd just be paying for the brand.

Should I go for the cheaper bricks, or is there really any difference in brick quality in relation to price?

I've also seen that some bricks give off a chalky residue. Does this happen on all bricks, regardless of price?

Thanks

Don't know about the quality but I'd pay the extra to get bricks identical or very closely colour matched to your originals - always seems a shame when you see extensions which don't match.
