Case resolution, can't make sense of it? Any ideas?

Part of the Furniture
Hi, I had a problem buyer who stated a toddler's jacket was stained and de-tagged, which wasn't the case. She opened a resolution and we couldn't come to any agreement. She decided she didn't want a refund and she didn't want to send the item back either. I asked her to close the case but she refused as she wanted the funds held as long as possible.

I asked ebay to review the case, they swiftly close the case as neither party are to blame.

This is the email I recieved -

A case has been opened because the buyer has an issue with an item purchased from you. We've reviewed the case and issued the buyer with a refund of £7.50. The refund includes the purchase price plus original postage & packaging. The hold on this PayPal transaction has been removed. s.gif
This case is now closed, and you don't need to do anything else.

You can view the details of the case in the Resolution Centre.

Now I seem to have had my funds released as agreed but they say they have refunded the buyer? I can't understand this, why would the buyer be refunded and why have the funds been released back to me.

When I check the transaction in paypal, it says that ebay has refunded the buyer as I did not have the correct funds in my account. I have plenty in my account so this is not the case. Does this mean ebay have footed the bill for a dodgy buyer?

I can't help but think that something went wrong here, did ebay foot the bill, and if so, why? Does it not encourage people like this to damage a sellers reputation to get a free item and a full refund inc postage?

Sounds like a no-fault refund, occasionally ebay will refund a buyer without clawing the money back from the seller.
Maybe they can't decide who is wrong or right in this case, but they want to keep buyers happy at all costs.
In my opinion ebay is much riskier as a buyer then a seller, and anything that makes buyers feel safe is a good thing, if someone wants to rip you off they will find a way.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Yes its a no fault refund and ebay refunded from their own pocket.

You do not need to do anything now - it is resolved as far as they are concerned

You have any actual facts to back that statement up? With ebay and paypal protection, I certainly feel quite confident as a buyer, and under far more pressure as a seller. Which is the right balance as far as I'm concerned.

Except that the facts are a buyer will always win a dispute, whether telling the truth or not, as they have that protection. So mine is a feeling based on fact. It's not possible to "rip a buyer off", but the opposite is more than possible.
Also a refund from ebay comes from the profit they make from sellers, hence the sellers are paying as a group.
