free laptops!

bet that^ got your attention!

ok, so there is a slight catch, but its a fab scheme and it may well be worth having a look to see if its available at your uni.

anyhoo, to get to the point, my uni's library has just bought 32 high spec laptops. they are fitted out with all the standard microsoft applications that you might need, not to mention a whole range of fancy technical programs for design, dtp, editing etc etc and wireless intenet access

for a £50 (returnable) deposit, they will loan the laptop to you for one week, and provided it is returned in its original condition, you get your fifty quid back. the laptop is then ghosted (they take of the microsoft works suite, check it for viruses, delete any files on the pc that shouldnt be there etc) then reinstall office and loan it out to the next person.

the scheme has gone down a storm, so if the scheme doesnt exist at your uni, maybe you could suggest it? we ARE made to sign a contract, agreeing to abide by what is basicall the same contract we have to abide by to use the PCs in the study halls. the only difference is that there is a waiver where you have to accept full responsibiliyt for the laptop - if it gets lost or stolen, etc, they can fine you up to £1000 for a replacement.

i've taken advantage even though i have a pc...sods law, have two essays to write by the ed of term - internet on pc at uni has stopped working (making it very difficult to do research) and one at home doesnt have a word processing package on due to 'FIL' tinkering with it constantly! but now, i not only have free and unlimited net access at uni for a week, ihave the means to get my essays done...but even better, because of the novelty factor of having a laptop (deprived childhood - never had one before lol), i am actually eager and excited about doing my work. the onlydownside is that i no longer have any excuse to do any work!

look out deadlines, here i come!!!!!!!!!!!!!
