Wonder if anyone could help me, last night when me and my husband came back from picking our son up from mother in laws about 8 pm there was a note not in an envelope from an enforcement agent its not for us it has some blokes name on it I have never heard of saying he owes £980 there is a phone number on it but nobody answers but it says on it that they will be taking action this weekend if not paid, on their website it says if you have a letter by mistake you need to send a copy of a bill etc or other proof but this wasn't addressed to anyone just a bit of paper through the door, does that seem a bit odd?

You don't have to prove anything to them. If they ask for proof of who you are, tell them there is a £1000 cash fee for providing information and that it must be paid in advance.
If they come back, tell them you are calling the Police to report them for Harassment. And do it.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

Perfect answer. It's nothing to do with you so you have nothing to worry about, just tell them to jog on.0 -
When my Nan passed away we kept finding these letters arriving when we visited to sort the house out. It was infuriating knowing that that these people were probably harassing her for a long time.
I called the number on the letter and told them that no-one of that name lived there, and I happened to mention that the elderly lady living there was being harassed and we would take further action if they didn't stop. (I didn't want to advertise the fact the house was empty for a period).
Good luck and don't worry about it- they can't force you to do anything.0 -
my husband just tried number again and got through this time, the idiot said it was meant for a different street nothing like the name of the street we live in and he even had the cheek to say if your going that way could you put it through their letter box! yeah the only box its going in is my bin.0
