I'm in a similar situation with yourself in regards to budget.

Currently I've been looking at Toyota's (specifically the Auris), I test drove one with 38k on the clock, 08 plate with all the trimmings.. dealer wanted 7750.. currently have got him down to 6180.94.. but I still reckon he could do better.

He sent me a text saying exact same car, slightly older (06) at another garage in his network for £5995, identical car.. except the body is in worse condition, although Toyota will apparently fix this.

I still believe I can get him into the 5k region on the 08 plate Auris ;)
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!

When its not doing short journeys its towing caravans and trailers.

    Perfect motor?

Wonder if i look after it or abuse it? No way of knowing really.

Didn't you find the interiors a bit tired? I was shocked at the wear I saw in a few ex-daily hire ones for sale (maybe not the best examples obviously but they had only covered 14k miles at 6 months old)

The interior in the auris I test drove was immaculate! I've seen a few dodgy cars in some lots, but 99% of the toyota's that were prepared for sale were spotless.

    hi, there.

I'm having the same questions :

Budget around 2k, looking for a small family car, that can go a long distance, since we need to use it at least once a year to go to Eastern Europe.

Looking for a Japanese make, since it's more reliable?

I've been looking around, and for that budget, looks like I can only get 10 years old car. Is that true?

    Any advise, please?
  • Get a Network Q Astra for decent money coming off Motability at 3 to 3.5 years old and get the warranty extended to 24 months.

Last December I picked up an Astra auto 1.8 Design with 19k on the clock.

Those 1.8 auto Astras are a good buy if you can put up with <30MPG, £200 tax etc. (probably the reason their value drops like a stone)
