Sleepmasters, Bed Shed, Dreams etc

We are looking for a new bed, and have visited the above superstores as well as a few small independant bed shops.

We were shown a "suitable bed" in Sleepmasters but I am not sure if its the most suitable or just the one they want to sell ? We went to Dreams and were given the exact opposite advice to Sleepmasters. We went to Bed Shed who were very friendly but didnt really offer any advice just explained each bed and were shown the "best sellers".

We went back to Sleepmasters and had another look but ended rather abruptly when I told the manageress that they were much more expensive than Bed Shed for what apears to be the same bed and she replied that "Bed Shed are our company who deal in the throw away market wheras we sell better quality with a 5 year guarantee"

Our last bed was bought from Dreams and looked to be of high quality and was around £600 but hasnt lasted 6 years.

My questions for anyone who knows, are Sleepmasters beds better than Bedshed or just inflated prices to cover a bigger showroom and 5 year (very limited) guarantee ?

All most likely have manufacturers "brand" beds for them, but how is it possible to tell who make them or if they are durable.

Would we be better to deal with an indepandant and buy a "known quantity"

We are currently leaning towards something like the Sealy Mirrorform or superstore equivalent memory foam.

Thanks

The John Lewis site has an explanation of what the different types are I believe. Sorry can't do a link.

We're looking for a single bed just now but on-line. The variety is mind boggling.

We are also looking through the minefield of bed purchase at the moment, and I would be really interested if anyone has any knowledge of, or experience with, memory foam beds. There seems to be a whole welter of conflicing info on these as well, it's very difficult to sort out the ones without a vested interest. I have access to a Which report, but all their best buys seem terribly expensive.
Interestingly, the ones which seem to be complete mattresses are apparently made up of what is, in effect, a mattress topper combined with a normal sprung mattress underneath, so I suppose the question is, why not just go for the much cheaper option of a topper to begin with.
Does anyone have any experience of this???
