Best LCD for Standard Definition

I'm quite keen to buy a new set as my old one is frankly far too big for my living room. (Bought it in an older house).

I'd like to get a 32" LCD and am looking at the Toshiba 32WLT66 which can be got for around £600. My question is that, since I'm going to have to wait a while before I can afford Sky HD, can anyone who has this set let me know what it's like at displaying standard definition video? (I have satellite, so input signal very good).

And does anyone have any advice on which other models are good for standard definition (since my only experience is in shops, and it tends to be pretty ropey there for some reason - maybe to encourage you to get Sky HD...)

Thanks

  • My parents have this model and they have "normal" Sky and watch DVDs - on both is it brilliant (via Scart of course). The picture and sound are great. Also the black frame, and narrow edges (speakers on the bottom of screen) make this a nice looking and discreet TV.

Toshiba LCDs are much more "future proof" than many other brands as they have 2 HDMI connections available (as well as a host of others). This means that should you upgrade to SkyHD AND HD-DVD/Blu Ray in future they can both be plugged in separately. No-one would buy a £600 TV these days with only one scart socket, so why most only provide one HDMI is beyond me! It also has a VGA input (PC) I think which is nice to show off photos from a laptop for example.

Currys do a deal with a nice black-glass cabinet and DVD Recorder/video and this TV for £999 which is what my folks got. But if you can get the TV for £600 elsewhere buy it separately. See...

I think I'm very close to being sold on this one; it's my Christmas present to myself... (and not going on credit, honest!)

    Thanks Toffeeblock.
