What's A 'Shipperless Site'?

I've recently moved into my flat but nobody wants to take me on as a new customer. I don't have any details of the previous supplier, and when I rang Transco, the only details they could give me was the meter point referance number and told me I was a shipperless site.

Whilst receiving free gas is great, I don't want to be lumped with a large bill further down the line... BG don't want to know, neither do npower.

I believe shipperless means they haven't yet assigned you to a supplier. I would go back to Transco for advice as there must be some process for deciding who is to supply your gas. Both British Gas and Npower wouldn't be able to help until it's been decided who your supplier is to start off with.
Some gas experts should be around on this forum soon to advise what other courses of action there could be .....
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

Thanks for your quick reply anniecave.

I think my next step will be to write to Transco to try and get some advice. I've phoned them a couple of times but have got nowhere. I'm also keeping a log of all my telephone calls & emails so I least I can prove that i'm trying to sort this out just in case I get accused of trying to 'thieve' the gas.

Keep a tally of the meter readings , put the money owing into a high savings account, and enjoy the interest.

You need to nominate a provider, basically by calling the comapny you want to supply you up and registering with them. However make sure they don't process you through as switching from a different company because it's a different procedure and your appplication would be rejected. The company you nominate will usually need the following details: your meter reading, serial number, date meter fitted, index (reading) when the meter was installed, manufacturer & model of meter (if the serial no starts with G4 that's the model) and the capacity. Then it's just a case of finding someone who knows what they're doing to get it processed for you. BG can do it and I would be amazed if Npower can't.

Thank you for your replies. Have not had a reply from npower today, nor have I had any response from BG (but that's not suprising).

I think i'll wait until Monday/Tuesday next week and contact npower again with all the info supplied on the meter and if I don't hear anything from them, i'll choose another supplier etc until I can find someone who can help.

I took a meter reading when I moved in, and again earlier this week and i'll continue to take a reading every few days until this is sorted.

Thanks for your help so far, i'm not worried as much as I was because I know i'm doing all I can to try and get this sorted, and I can prove that with copy emails etc...

Hiya is it a new build? If so you could talk the developer or chat to other residents to see if they have had the same problem.
    I love this site

No, these flats were built in 1991. My gas supply was cut off earlier this week but I got reconnected after 20 hours thanks to the involvement of energy watch. It was Northern Gas Networks who reconnected me and the guy who came out said I was probably disconnected due to the property being empty for a subsantial amount of time. The vendor insisted that npower previously supplied the gas, but they say that's not the case :(

Update in case any of you was wondering how things are going, or for those in a similar situation.

Ok, I think I maybe getting somewhere.....

Npower have sent me a contract to sign so they can come out and install a meter. Only problem is i've already got a meter and a gas supply which I told them about in the original email, but it seems they are treating this as a new build. I'm still going to sign the contract but write a covering letter and tell them again. All I want is for somebody to say "give us your money!" (silly me).

But at least i'm not getting ignored, thats the main thing.
