Vegetarian (will eat fish) wheat and dairy free BBQ recipe help please

Hi All,
Hope someone can help!
OH and I are having a BBQ next Saturday and have a guest coming who doesn't eat meat, (though does eat fish) dairy or wheat.
I'd really like to be able to cook something for her on the BBQ so was thing about a spicy bean burger (with a gluten/wheat free roll) or something but all the recips I've found contain eggs and or flour for binding I guess.
Just wondered if anyone had any recipes for something similar? Not worried if it's bean related or not just would like her to feel like she's eaten something BBQ'd as opposed to a tuna salad which is all I can think of at the moment.
She can eat fish so maybe I could do some sort of salmon or tuna on the BBQ? I'm planning on doing lots of salads etc so side dishes are less of a problem but just don't want her to feel like what she's eating is massively different to everyone else. Maybe I'm worrying unecessarily though and she won't really be that fussed?!
If anyone could help or point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks in advance

Whatever she is, she isn't a vegetarian, as they don't eat fish.0

My friends are similar and they normally do a large salad and then proceed to do veg kebabs on the bbq and fillets of fish, salmon works well slices of courgette are yummy bbq'd. Im not veggy myself but im more than happy to eat their non meat bbq food any day and you dont feel like your missing out.HSBC [STRIKE]£3223.20[/STRIKE] £2060.00Cap1 [STRIKE]£1724.91[/STRIKE] £1782.00OD [STRIKE]£939.78[/STRIKE] £200.00No 49 of £2012 in 2012.. £645.10 so far & Crazy Clothes £14.09/£100.00 ReducingtheToiletryStash2012 UU12/IN 20 March Grocery 0.00/£65.00 & LbsNot£s Lost 14Lbs0

if she just doesnt eat meat then eggs and flour are ok. those large mushrooms (called field or portobello) are delicious when brushed with oil and done on the barbie. so are slices of aubergine! season both with salt and pepper after brushing them with a little oil. I dont usually like fish done on the barbie but those cornish sardines are nice, they are large enough to do whole without being too much for one person to eat. get a few as even carnivores like them!
the usual sides of salad, potato salad etc will be ok. I also like to do a huge bowl of roasted veg. you know, the usual onion, red onion, red orange or yellow peppers diced up, chunks of butternut squash or sweet potato..........all tossed with oil and salt and pepper and then some bruised garlic cloves scattered in with them, maybe some italian herbs then roasted in a hot oven for about 35 minutes until just beginning to char at the edges! my mouth is watering just thinking of this - its my favourite side dish!0 -
Kebabs with halloumi cheese, peppers and onion or ribbons of courgette folded onto the skewer wiith mushrooms and cubes of tofu, all "marinated in olive oil and paprika. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your window

If she eats fish then there are plenty of fish things that do well on a bbq.
Personally I'd avoid barbequing bean burger type things as they tend to be quite delicate and fall apart. The fake meat style things hold up better but may not be suitable for your guest as they may contain wheat and/or dairy. Worth checking individual label though as you may get lucky.
If you can't get or don't want fake meat why not try vegetable and tofu skewers. Just thread chopped veg such as peppers, mushrooms, courgette, etc and chunks of extra firm tofu onto wooden skewers. Brush with herby oil and grill away!
Also, corn on the cob is lovely done on the bbq. Or those big portabello mushrooms grilled with some vegan pesto or garlicy oil.
If you look in the free from section at most supermarkets you can get dairy free and wheat free versions of pesto and mayonnaise so you can make classic bbq accompaniments like pasta salad and potato salad.
Hope that helps!0 -
Sorry I originally missed the dairy part
The tofu kebabs I suggested are delicious, and will be OK for all her requirements. The problem with cooking fish on the BBQ is that everything will smell of it, if she's the only one you are cooking it for, but if you buy a pack of tofu other people may like that as a change too. As geri1965 has correctly pointed out she isn't a vegetarian she is a pescatarian (as indeed I am) but lots of us often refer to ourselves as either vegetarians or vegetarians who eat fish (both of which are incorrect) but it is often far easier as lots of people look at you stupid if you say you are a pescatarian or think that it is then ok to use meat products in your meals.
Anyway, as to your question - you say she doesn't eat dairy & wheat, I'm not sure if these would be suitable but my favourite pre-made veggie bbq style things are Asda meat free burgers and Linda McCartney Sausages. I also like veggie kababs - either just pieces of veg on kebab sticks or with some Quorn pieces as well. A nice piece of tuna would be a good alternative (but watch out for the meat eaters drooling lol!) I like it with a bit of honey on and some chinese 5 spice. Whatever you do I am sure she will be thrilled that she isn't just left eating salad lol!
It is amazing how many people don't think about it - but unless you have one of those massive 3 section bbq's where you can cook the veggie stuff totally seperate, you will need a disposable bbq or something.0 -
Unfortunately Quorn contains dairy (and eggs) and Linda M sausages are mostly wheat!0

As the best description for your friend is "pescetarian" - I got googling and found there are specific pescetarian websites. Try and see what this one has:
http://pescetarianlivingrecipes.blogspot.com/
Googling will even produce specific pescetarian barbecue recipes.
I notice these things - as I'm a frustrated pescetarian...ie vegetarian not totally by choice - as I wouldnt eat meat - but would like to eat fish sometimes (but cant - because of what else is there in our oceans these days......darn it...)0 -
BBQ'd butternut is nice. Cut a butternut into about eight wedge scoop the seeds out, sprinkle with slat and pepper add a good glug of olive oil and then wrap tightly in foil and cook on the bbq until soft. Non-veggies also like this and because its cooked in foil it doesn't get 'contaminated' with meat juices etc from the grill. Its really good it you serve it with a spoonful of red kidney beans in chilli sauce. (the type that come with the sauce in the tin)I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly
