BIG praise for Dixons.....

Dixons have just repaired by Samsung 40" LCD tv that was 3 yrs 10 months old with no warranty. It had been turning itself off and the picture quality had gone, it was like the screen was covered in neon bright colours and really blurry...
I found out from an internet forum that Samsung TV's have a problem with the capacitors and that Samsung were offering free inspections and free repairs if that was the problem. Unfortunately mine wasn't just the capacitors it was the whole main pcb which Samsung weren't prepared to fix even though the capacitors had caused the pcb to fail to the extent it had.
So I wrote to Dixons quoting the Sale of Goods Act and saying that as the TV was neither 'free from defect' or 'fit for purpose' owing to the dodgy capacitors I requested a full refund of my £755 asking price (I knew I wouldn't get THAT) as they the retailer were therefore in breach of my statutory rights by selling me the tv in the first place.
They phoned me up, took the tv away, (it was gone for a fortnight in the end) and replaced the main pcb board AND the capacitors that started the fault in the first place. I've not had to pay for anything not the engineer's report or anything.
So I'm happy as a sandboy right now! Thanks Dixons, thanks the advice on this and the avforums forum, you CAN get stuff fixed out of warranty, you just need to use the right terminology. :T

Good to hear! It's quite rare that retailers touch items that are that old free of charge. It was gone for a fortnight but a small price to pay for having your TV repaired
