Lloyds Airmiles Duo CC

I have just opened a Classic Vantage account with Lloyds
Checking with my online banking I see I will be getting the airmiles duo cards.

I only really want an ordinary CC I don't spend enough to get free flights. Now I will be getting two cards

I have just googled for reviews and they are all negative with people experiencing problems with using them with the over zealous security.

Any thoughts in here about them ?
Are they a good idea or not and why would you need two cards ?

I can't really comment on how good the cards are (I after all was rejected for them a few months ago), But i did alot of research into them and all i found was negative reviews and comments, perhaps consider some other lloyds tsb credit cards (platinum and Advance Mastercards).

    Can you please explain?
You say you have opened a classic vantage - fine but that has nothing to do with credit cards - so did you also apply for them?

You cannot be given a credit card without applying for one.

When I opened the accounts I was told I could have a credit card with them if I wanted , so I agreed to have one and I signed the application form. my credit rating was excellent which I was pleased about, having been turned down for the Halifax reward Clarity card a week or so ago.

I know I don't need an account to have a credit card, but if I want to pay it off by DD it seemed a good idea.

I am just unsure whether these duo cards are a good thing.

When you use your credit card, the credit card provider charges the retailer for processing the transaction. American Express charge a higher fee than the other credit card providers (Visa and Mastercard), so some places won't accept American Express cards.

The Lloyds Duo credit card gives you two cards. The silver one is an American Express, and you use this one most of the time. If a shop tells you that they don't accept American Express, you can use the green Mastercard one instead - it's accepted in more places, but it doesn't earn as many airmiles.

If you're not trying to earn airmiles and don't want to carry both cards, leave the American Express card at home and only use the Mastercard.
  • I've had mine for about 18 months now - they have blocked the account once due to mail being returned to them, but they neglected to contact me to tell me! It was a bit of a pain. Haven't had any other problems tho. I usually only carry the Amex about, most places take it and if they don't I use my Halifax card instead.

Is it correct that for the first three months you get 1 airmile per £1 spent? Because when i recieved the cards it stated 1 airmile per £10 spent and i wondered if this was just because its their usual rate not taking into account the offer.

I can't find the old page on moneysavingexpert where i read about it.

Only if you got the card at a time when they were running this promotion. When I got mine there was no promotion, so I just got the standard airmiles for my spending.

I'm a bit annoyed because i swear last week there was a promotion running on this card where you got 1 airmile per £1 spent but Lloyds are saying no such promotion has ever run, and i've got it clear in my head that if i spent £1500 over 3 months i would earn enough for a return flight. Has MSE advertised something incorrectly here?

Any help would be great as the Lloyds man i spoke to was amazingly helpful but had no idea about this offer or where i'd read about it.
