new windows on mortgage, How?

I desperately need new windows, but have been disabled for the past 10 years, (ankylosing spondilitis) and havent had the finances to replace them, my son walked into my room holding a large chunk of frame from his bedroom window which came off as he closed the window  today, and now we really have to do something about this! I do have a mortgage with the bank of scotland, which I have had for roughly 16 years, and the property has plenty of equity now, which I have never changed, or borrowed against in the past. Everest windows have been at my door, and seem to come up with some high prices, 6k and that was not all the windows, but for 6 big, 2 small, regular end terraced. He offered finance, but I wonder if it would be better to add onto mortgage. What is the process for doing this, do I talk first to a window supplier, or my mortgage provider Bank of Scotland? I'm not even sure if I can do this, as being disabled, and unable to work, part of the mortgage is paid now by the benefits agency, and I pay approx 100 myself on top of that to meet the mortgage payments. Any suggestions advice welcome, thanks JonO:)

First obtain quotes from local companys etc and then if need be try applying for government grants etc.

Firstly, DO NOT use Everest. They are easily the most expensive on the market and their quality is average. Get quotes from local companies and don't fall for the hard sell of Everest.

Never heard of grants for replacment windows, but if you are claiming DLA, that may be different.

You need to have an informal chat with your Building Society. Explain the situation and ask if an extension on you loan is possible. The monthly repayments will be considerably lower than the extortionate rates Everest wil offer you. The worst they can say is "No".
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.
