Think I have been made redundant? Advice needed!

Hi, I am a secretary and have been in my current job for just over nine months. On Friday the boss called me into his office and explained that they could no longer afford me and had to give me notice (one month). I was extremely shocked as I had not seen this coming and when he said that I could take the rest of the afternoon off I just stumbled out of the office and went home!!
I assumed that I had been made redundant, but having read the letter I was handed, it doesn't actually mention redundancy. I have not been given any warning, there is nothing wrong with my work and I am always busy, so they cant argue there is no work for me. Any advice on the situation and my options would be hugely appreciated!!
Thanks

from my limited knowledge of employment law, they can let you go any time in the first 12 months for any reason. They don't need to pay you any redundancy I am afraid.0

On Friday the boss called me into his office and explained that they could no longer afford me - they may be able to get the work done by someone who costs less or has been with them for longer, may even be your boss having to do more of his own secretarial work - and had to give me notice (one month). I was extremely shocked as I had not seen this coming and when he said that I could take the rest of the afternoon off I just stumbled out of the office and went home!! Deliberately letting you know on a Friday, so you have time to "recover" by Monday.
I assumed that I had been made redundant, but having read the letter I was handed, it doesn't actually mention redundancy. Because you haven't been there a year, they don't have to put a reason. I have not been given any warning, there is nothing wrong with my work and I am always busy, so they cant argue there is no work for me. They haven't said there isn't the work: they have said they can't afford you. So the work needs to be done by others or not at all. Any advice on the situation and my options would be hugely appreciated!!
Thanks
Brush off your CV if you haven't kept it up-to-date in the last nine months. See what's available on job sites. Start applying.
On Monday, you can ask the company if there is other work you could do.
Register with temp agencies for any office work, even if they don't have any secretarial work.0
