How to self build a 7x5 or 8x5 shed and price?

We have a 7x5 shed in our back garden and right behind it is a wasted space of 5x5. So we want to move the shed back so that there is no gap at the rear, giving us space for more storage in front.

However, because we have to have the door in a non standard position we need a 'special' shed but we cant afford a bespoke shed or anyone to build it for us. So, how does one build a shed, what do we need to consider and what sort of price is the above size going to cost.

I would like tongue and groove but OH says its too expensive. We also need to put some more base down as obviously the base it is on does not extend back into that wasted space we want to build on.

I dont think its an option to utilise the shed we have as its quite old, but I suppose we could reuse some of the wood, I think it is what is called feather edge, or it might be shiplap, im not sure on the differences.

Help!!! (ps, we are quite unfit, will this kill us?)

If you type shed plans into google it will bring up lots of info on how to go about it including bases etc, just wach out for the ones that ask you to pay for plans as you can find them for free by searching.

Heres a website to get you started http://www.readersheds.co.uk/

Heres another http://www.buildeazy.com/newplans/board-and-batten_shed_page1_4_06.html although you might have to change sizes etc to suit but it will give you some ideas.

Building the frame etc won't kill you. Assembling it all can be quite difficult if you build a solid shed. It easy to forget how heavy the finished base / walls / roof is going to be when you are building it and only working with 1 length of timber at a time.

Don't use featheredge, it will be a false economy as it will tend to twist and warp and will need to be replaced sooner. Use shiplap as a minimum as this locks the boards together making the whole structure stronger and longer-lasting.

Don't buy the timber from the big DIY chains. You will save money and probably get better quality by buying from a timber merchant. They'll also be able to advise you on what size timbers to make the frame from and what fixings to use,and they'll deliver for a reasonable fee.

Go to your nearest large garden centre and have a good look at their shed range, taking note of how they are constructed. Take a notebook and a camera so that you can record details of joints and construction methods.

well, things have changed in a matter of hours. we measured the space properly and it is actually nearly 7 x nearly 7 foot

we have a metal bike shed in the front garden which we may need to (and so now want to move), and i thought we wouldnt be able to fit it into this space as it was 6x4 but obviously we now can. however.... when we put it up, i remember that some of the fixings were done from the outside of the shed, not the inside,, now if we put this shed in the space we have, it is enclosed on nearly all 4 sides, (2 walls, the side of the first shed and some trellis at the front)

its going to be very difficult to get it into that space
