hi i am considering buying my 2 daughters a nintendo ds each for xmas, one is 8 and one is 5 1/2.
i saw on a website it says suitable for 8years+ so im wondering if anyone can assure me it will be fine for my youngest daughter. she can use an xbox controller with ease so im thinking a nintendo ds lite should be ok for her xmas, im just a wee bit wary on the age rating.
thanks
rob

Yes, if you've got her XBox trained, it doesn't take a long time to get her DS trained. For a grown up, there is not a lot of difference. For a child, it might take a bit more getting used to dual screens and starting your own games.
Also bear in mind that one of the reasons for the age thing is that young children will damage the DS quite easily if they choose to and in some cases it may not be a suitable toy.

thanks for the info, yes good point on a younger child possibly being breaking it, they do take care of things but accidents do happen.
my main concern is she will be abe to play and adapt to the games suitable for younger children.0 -
My 6y/o daughter is a DS gaming God ! the stylus makes games alot easier to play,if you get one, I can highly recommend Yoshi`s touch and go ,the game is easy to pick up and play,...by the way the original DS is a tough ol cookie,I don`t know if the DS lite is the same though. Also ,buy screen protectors..these are a must.I would love some decent telly on a Saturday night0

My daughter (aged 7) and son (aged 4) are both having them for Christmas. Both are computer whizzes and my son is an expert on the Gameboy Colour, they've played with friends DS lites and coped fine. If you look at the game many of them are for ages 3+ so a 5 1/2 year old should be fine. Initial games for my daughter are Nintendogs (excellent game) and Bratz (probably not very good but it's Bratz!), my son is having Sonic Rush and Super Mario Brothers.
https://www.movietyme.com is good for cheap games BTW, so long as you don't mind having American spec games. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
thanks to all who replied, my mind is now as ease and i can be confident that my daughter wil coe fin with the 'ds' .
mario games should be a big hit oh and them nintendogs and the bratz are a must lol
noted that i need screen protectors
thanks0 -
I must warn you the age ratings on the games are very misleading. Many games are rated as suitable for ages 3+. I`m 41 and find them extremely challenging. Currently New Super Mario is giving me a headache. (pretty good at tetris though!)
Seriously if both girls are getting one look for games they can play together. Many DS games can be played wirelessly by two or more players, depending on the game only one copy of the game may be necessary the second layer downloads the game from the DS containing the game. Two examples of this are super monkey ball and tetris.
A popular game this Christmas (my 9 yo niece is getting it) is Animal crossing, and yes you are right the Nintendogs are very sweet and go down very well with young girls!
Here`s hoping for Yoshi`s Island for Christmas.
