Virgin Digital Help Review

Virgin Digital Help (VDH) purportedly assists customers with all sorts of computer problems via purchasing software, remote desktop help, and a 0800 phone number. There is also a tie-up with AVG, where the latter will refer customers of their AVG free program who call them with issues.

One of my clients who had such an issue was referred by AVG to VDH. The client was running AVG free on a Windows XP system. VDH persuaded the client to subscribe to AVG Internet Security 2011 for £70, and also ther PC Mate program for another £30.

These prices are way over the top, AVG IS recommended price on the AVG website is under £40 (and can be obtained at even lower proces, eg under £10 on ebay), as as far as I could see the PC Mate software is based on CCleaner software which is a free download. Further the AVG IS license was in two 6 month subscriptions, which I guess is designed to force clients to call VDH back when the first matures (on the basis that users don't read the small print!).

Whilst I can see the advantage for users who really are are technically non-savvy, usually there are local technicians who would be happy to advise in many cases without charge.

So be careful call your local PC experts before trying VDH - you will be overcharged if you buy "their" software.
