Passat Economy

Hi All,

Anybody able to give me a optimum fuel economy figure for a 1999 Passat 1.8 20v in town driving conditions.
Well serviced, tyre pressures correct and will be driven with a light foot.

Have googled this, but getting conflicting figures.

No more than 35MPG.

As above, but the 1.8T will get 40.

Fuel consumption (urban) 23.3 mpg
Fuel consumption (extra urban) 42.8 mpg
Fuel consumption (combined) 32.8 mpg

Thanks everyone, off to see one today. MPG around town was the only thing bothering me...was hopefull it wouldnt be less than 30!

Try driving around town in 3rd instead of 4th - its usually more economical.

1000-2500 around town should be plenty

Thanks everyone. Im hoping it's at least as good as my current (off the road) car, which is a 1997 Toyota Rav 2lt.

Anybody got an opinion whether it should be?

Fuel consumption (extra urban) 36.7 mpg
Fuel consumption (combined) 30.1 mpg

So not that much difference.
