cracks in chimney breast

I am interested in a property but there is one long crack in the 1st floor chimney breast, starting from right top towards left top and going down to approx. 1 meter. It is around a penny width.
It is a semi detached and the chemney is on party wall. There is a very small crack to the ground floor in the same chimney breast. There is nothing on the external wall.
Is it anything structural and serious? How much does it can cost to fix in the worst senario?
Thanks a lot.

Could be just the heat from the chimney has cracked the old plaster, could be numerous other things.
Best thing to do imo is to get a full structural survey done and see what that says.
As for what possibly could be done to remidy, well if its simple then just replastering, then again could need wall stitches put in to stop any more movement and reline the chimney, or it could mean take down the chimney and rebuild it. It all depends what the survey comes back as.You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
hi muckybutt, thanks for reply.
the property is newly furnished, so the crack can't be caused by old plaster. i am thinking of bring builder to have a look, but if it is something serious structural I may have to leave it.0
