Thanks for your advice. Dr's have never been much help. Even the counsellor I went to ended up in tears!

I don't want to lose my house. What should I offer my creditors?
  • Just wanted to add my best wishes Keigh, I too often feel overwhelmed by my debts and find this site a great help when it all feels like it's getting too much.

    Take care,

IVA to clear your debts, you can get them to accept very little in the pound, especially when you have such a high debt in comparison to earnings.
See a solicitor, or talk to for example, Tyler Morgan and co on 0845 600 3518.
They do a really good IVA newsletter, plus talk a lot of sense.
Not seen them advertise, which is a good thing.

You need professional advice for both money and health. I can't believe the counsellor burst into tears, what a prat! The person ought to be taken out of the job - try again, I am sure that the next time you will get a professional that would really help you.

In some ways your extremely low income, plus high debt means that the credit companies have no chance at all of getting their money back, so if you have a mortgage watch out! You need to get it sorted st away, so taking the mortgage/ house out of the equation. Talk to the professionals and get their honest opinions.

I am very sorry to hear of your really difficult circumstances, but you sound more centred and clued up than some of the people you have been consulting with. I sincerely wish you the best of luck with your fortunes. Please keep us all posted regularly with all that happens.
  • Oh Keigh I am so sorry to read of your circumstances.

Can someone just clarify for me & the OP though....keigh can't lose his house if these credit cards are not 'secured' on his house?

As another person has suggested, please try again for counselling. Lynz in spot on, you need to find yourself some peace. Again, as rog2 says, it is only money. I know that's easy to say however but you as a person need to come first.

Please stay with us as a community. It *can* help even if some days all we can do between us is raise a smile.

    Hi Keigh,

sorry to hear how difficult life has been and become. As well as taking up any of the debt dealing with suggestions, if you are going to try counselling again [I know its not easy] then maybe contact CRUSE who are an organisation 'specialising' in bereavment counselling would be helpful? However you will be able to bring any aspect of your situation that you wish and you don't have to just concentrate on bereavement. You can refer yourself - don't have to go through your GP, find them in the phone book.

You sound quite overwhelmed by everything that has happened and it all seems to have snowballed so it may take some time to unpick the strands [sorry mixed metaphor] but you have begun by posting so don't give up - well done.

Sorry I cannot always reply promptly - I am sharing a neighbours PC.

I have mortgage of £25000 - could you explain why I should "Watch out" as I thought the cc companies couldn't touch my house.

Anyone know what I should put in writing to the cc companies when I can't afford anything?

Yes, I will try counselling again but it was Cruse I went to before. I don't think cc companies will be sympathetic to the reasons I am where I am. It is my fault after all.

    Thanks

    Hi K,

Thx for posting. I'm so glad that you've found this place. I just want to start by sending you a big hug :grouphug:

I'm absolutely knackered and shouldn't be up so late so apologies if what I types a bit higgledy piggledy.

    1) Are any of your debts secured loans? If you don't know ring them and find out. If the no. is an 0870 no then dial use the call checker (link on the left hand side margin) so that you don't pay silly call rates.:money: . If the debts are not secured then you will not be able to lose your house. Do you have any mortgage arrears? If so then these are classed as a priority debt. Your priority debts are mortgage/rent arrears and utility bills.
    2) Call CCCS (Consumer Credit Counselling Service) on 0800 1381111 and do everything they say. You will understand more about priority and non-priority debts after dealing with them. They will send you out a user friendly pack with letter templates in to fill in the blanks and send to your creditors. I have done this for 2 friends and they are now paying 1 pound a week to each of their debts and the interest has been stopped.:T
    IT DOES WORK

PLEASE STICK WITH WHAT I'M POSTING. IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT. WE ARE ALL POSTING BECAUSE WE DO CARE. YOU ARE NOT ALONE FACING THIS DESPAIR. IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT.

You are having your lightbulb moment - which I realise may sound like a strange term if you've never heard it before but basically you are coming to terms with everything. Which is very painful in itself and makes one feel an awful sense of despair. With the grief of losing a loved one I can't begin to imagin. If you read the posts on this forum then you will see that there is a pattern: New poster - BIG sense of despair - starts making steps to get things sorted - slides a little bit - then gets back on track all guns firing and hey presto they're off and well on their way. You're already on step 2!!:T CONGRATULATIONS ON MAKING YOUR FIRST STEPS - NOW JUST MAKE A FEW MORE AND YOUR NEARLY THERE :T

Best of Luck - you can do this,
