Butterfly Tree

I would guess Buddleia too. I've two in my garden - a white one that was already there and a dark purple one (variety: Black Knight) which I planted (beautiful scent). Both are always covered in butterflies.
Some people prune them right down almost to the ground (to two buds up) and the plant stays relatively compact but I prune mine higher up (I want the privacy from neighbours) and they have both become more like small trees.
After the first flush of flowers, I always prune them and then you get a second flush of flowers - although smaller than the first lot, but they provide a welcome feed for insects later in the summer. (You can leave the seed heads of the old ones out for the birds to pick clean).
Hope you find at least one you like. They're fantastic plants.
(Note about lilac: we've a lilac tree in our garden and it flowers on new wood grown the previous year, so every other year it doesn't flower much; tricky to prune too - otherwise you can end up cutting out all the wood that's going to flower next year ... !)0
