    C:\Users\Home\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\conhost.exe doesn't look good

    F3 - REG:win.ini: load=C:\Users\Home\AppData\Local\Temp\csrss.exe

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:49253

tick and fix, then full scan with malwarebytes, after updating fix anything found before closing

This is a general guide on cleaning up infections and speeding up pc's https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2436849 . The best way of cleaning up a slow or badly infected machine is to backup data, and do a factory restore using the factory restore partition or Windows disc.

If you haven't all ready done it, Install Malwarebytes and do a FULL (not quick) scan (after updating it), fix anything found before closing, otherwise you'll have to do it all over again. If anything was found reboot the machine before continuing. http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

If you know you have just been infected, with a fake antivirus for example, running system restore to a previous restore point is often the fastest way of getting your machine working again

Making any changes to a PC setup always comes with a slight risk of something going wrong, the worse case scenario is an unbootable PC - ideally you should have got a backup of important data on dvd or external disk, and a disk image backup (http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp) or windows disc/factory restore partition available before you start. In the unlikely event that anything does go wrong, post on another pc for advice.

Install and run ccleaner (untick the google toolbar during the install). Untick the "windows log files" box, under the system heading before cleaning. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/slim

If you suspect an infection, here are some other virus scanners to try, let them fix anything found

    http://devbuilds.kaspersky-labs.com/devbuilds/AVPTool/
    http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro
    http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.exe

Go into the connection settings of all your browsers, and remove the proxy entry (IE Tools, internet options, connections/firefox tools, advanced, network, settings etc), the entry below is usually a sign or remnants of an infection causing browser redirection

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:49253

If you are getting your web browsing redirected, and are working on a home machine (not work), delete (or rename to anything) your hosts file c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts or replace it with this http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm which helps to block against malware and adverts.

Scanning with all the scanners above along with your resident scanner should remove most or all infections if there are any present on your machine, below is some specific (optional) advice based on your log which may help to improve speed and tidy things up.

Click the java icon in control panel, advanced, misc - untick java quick starter, and untick place icon in task bar

Disable ctfmon - control panel, regional and language options, languages, details, advanced, tick the Turn off advanced text services, ok

Uninstall any IE toolbars (browser helper objects or BHO's) or Firefox plugins that you don't need, this is a list of the IE BHO's evident in the log

    O2 - BHO: Freecorder Toolbar - {1392b8d2-5c05-419f-a8f6-b9f15a596612} - C:\Program Files\Freecorder\tbFree.dll
    O2 - BHO: AcroIEHelperStub - {18DF081C-E8AD-4283-A596-FA578C2EBDC3} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroIEHelperShim.dll
    O2 - BHO: Ask Toolbar BHO - {D4027C7F-154A-4066-A1AD-4243D8127440} - C:\Program Files\Ask.com\GenericAskToolbar.dll

Unless you use media sharing across the network, disable it in media player, library, media sharing, or options media sharing, untick find and share media

If you want a speedy machine, Use windows firewall and replace your antivirus and security software with avast 6 free - (a fast and lightweight virus scanner with good detection rates) http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download :

Install and run startuplite, accept suggested changes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/StartUpLite.exe

Uninstall mcafee in Control Panel (add/remove programs or programs/features)

    C:\Program Files\McAfee Security Scan\2.0.181\SSScheduler.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: McAfee Security Scan Plus.lnk = ?
O23 - Service: McAfee Security Scan Component Host Service (McComponentHostService) - McAfee, Inc. - C:\Program Files\McAfee Security Scan\2.0.181\McCHSvc.exe

Uninstall avira in Control Panel (add/remove programs or programs/features)

    C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\avgnt.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [avgnt] "C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\avgnt.exe" /min

    O23 - Service: Avira AntiVir Guard (AntiVirService) - Avira GmbH - C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\avguard.exe

In internet explorer, click on tools, internet options, advanced, disable script debugging

start, run, services.msc, disable these services unless you use them. (make a note of any services you disable,if you have any problems related to these services subsequently, simply re-enable them)

    SSDP Discovery Service
    Remote Registry
    WebClient
    Distributed Link Tracking Client

Disable this service GoogleUpdate by running services.msc

    O23 - Service: Google Update Service (gupdate) (gupdate) - Google Inc. - C:\Program Files\Google\Update\GoogleUpdate.exe

Disable this service NBService.exe by running services.msc

    O23 - Service: Nero BackItUp Scheduler 4.0 - Nero AG - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nero\Nero BackItUp 4\NBService.exe

Disable this service McCHSvc.exe by running services.msc

O23 - Service: McAfee Security Scan Component Host Service (McComponentHostService) - McAfee, Inc. - C:\Program Files\McAfee Security Scan\2.0.181\McCHSvc.exe

Unless you use it, use msconfig to disable qttask.exe from running at startup

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime

Unless you use it, use msconfig to disable jusched.exe from running at startup

Sorry mate, :) I too used to believe malwarebytes assertion that a full scan was not necessary.

But recently I've seen 2 instances where a quick scan has got things working and a full scan has dug out a couple more infected files.

So this time I'm with closed.

Agreed , but I meant as first step, cos most need other remedial action, and then run the full. If there is a problem most folks would /seem prefer to then carry on asap with the "fix" and then run the full, rather than wait for 1+ hours before they can start getting back to normal. :coffee:

don't see the point of doing things twice unless the system is unusable due to infection (which is quite rare on here).

Occasionally I've seen the full scan find something missed on the quick scan, but usually only things that ccleaner would remove anyway. At times on a badly infected system I've found subsequent quick scans to detect significant additional items, almost like peeling an onion.

There's no predicting how long the quick scan will take - on my main computer it can take as little as 3 minutes for a quick scan, and 45 minutes upwards for a full scan. For me, it would it silly to do a full scan initially when it takes 15 times longer...

We all do things slightly different, as long as it gets to the end result (clean computer) then it's no big deal I suppose.

I think we're all on the same side about this. It's whether you run a full scan first, I don't.

Malwarebytes originally said that a full scan was not really necessary, and I used to believe them.

Agree with you, a quick scan takes no time at all (hopefully).

Yes, we all seem to use a quick scan to get things going, then full scan.
Occasionally I've seen the full scan find something missed on the quick scan, but usually only things that ccleaner would remove anyway.

The PC I sorted earlier this week was up and working after the quick scan in safe mode with networking, the full scan in normal mode found 6 more instances, all in the restore points.

Oh yeah you're right, it'll also look there. I'm always mistrustful of the restore points - so with that prejudice usually wipe them on an endemically infected PC :)
