Thanks for the replies everyone.
One last question (I promise!) -
If a gap on the electorall roll doesn't matter, in applying for credit does the time that you have been on the electoral roll not matter, only whether you are on it or not?
If you have a limited credit history it might do, but if you have a good substantial credit history dating back years it wont make a difference.
In fact ,there are as many people who are NOT on the ER who get all the credit they want / need, cards, loans etc... because they have a long and substantial credit history. That is what counts, not just having your name on the ER.0 -

Thanks for the reply.
If people can get credit whilst not being on the electoral roll, I'm mystified why my application(s) for a new credit card to balance transfer £3,400 was rejected.
I can only assume that it was one of the following -
* Started a new job in the last 6 months (but it is 'permanent' and in the public sector)
* The credit limit on the MBNA card that I was trying to transfer was quite high at £7,800
* I've got a number of other active, but unused for ages credit cards
It seems that credit assessment is a dark art!0 -
if you have other active but unused cards ring the providers up and ask if theres any offers goin.
Surely you have thought of this?0
