MSE News: Warm Front energy grant scheme open for applications

We were accepted for a new boiler last Oct following a visit by warm front and told it could take anything from 6 weeks to 6 months to get the work done, letter rec'd in Dec stating all still going ahead. Having been told this and the fact we were told they were busy we didn't chase again until early April this year and told that the contractor had cancelled which they were unaware of until our phone call and that it was too late in the financial year to get a new contractor to do the work. Told to re-apply today but that if our situation hadn't changed then we should still be OK to get the work done.
Phoned today and told we do not now qualify, was also told that it was the Gov that cancelled the contractor back in Dec.
Looks like another winter of using electric heaters (along with the high cost of running them) awaits us again this year.0 -
Two days I was quoted for the work to be done now 9 days later still waiting for them to finish. Electrician went on holiday on Thursday and they still haven't found a replacement!! I have made a number of calls and each time it's, "we'll forward an email to Lisa!" Is Lisa the only person within the EAGA company able to make decisions on who works where? Also worried the boiler isn't up to the job so was the plumber who installed it. Truely fed up as we also had to top up the grant for the work to be done and we're still waiting. To get hot water at the moment we have to put the heating on. The radiators were 2 different models and the plumber kept leaving his tools all over the place that my 4 year old kept falling over them. A full days work was 4 hours if I was lucky!! The warm front grant is a great help, however surely there is a better company than EAGA to do the work? EAGA for money but not EAGA to finish the work. Will be on the phone again in the morning!! Anyone have an address/email for complaints?:mad: Thanks Nikki0

EAGA handle their own complaints and as has been established they're an incompetent bunch of imbeciles and a complete waste of time. I'd therefore suggest a call to the DECC:

Good luck with that. When I had my complaint Warmfront was 'answerable' to Defra (I use the word loosely). Having been stonewalled by EAGA in their complaints procedure 'we have looked at your complaint and thank you for your feedback, this case is now closed' I complained to Defra. Who passed the complaint to my MP. Who wrote to EAGA, who replied to the MP with the same nonsense letter, who passed the letter on to me. EAGA is expert in dodging the question and it is not in the government's interests to show them up for the shower that they really are.
EAGA's practices have been raised in the house of commons on various occasions. If the govt had any inclination at all to get a grip of this, they would have taken the opportunity when the scheme was withdrawn/revised. The fact that they did nothing just reinforces EAGA's stranglehold.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

Dear all forum users
I have just registered to post as the news article which sent me here is wrong and misleading, but I do want to make something clear before first - I have a vested in test in this sector (I own a loft and cav insulation company).
The truth is that grants for loft and cav insulation have NEVER gone away - warm front is a brand name for one companies program of insulation works - others include warm streets, cozy homes, happy homes etc etc etc
If you are over 70 or on benefits as destined above the service is FREE of charge subject to survey. Similarly if you live in TA, BS, BA or EX post code areas then loft insulation is also FREE TO EVERYONE FULLY INSTALLED AND WITHOUT EXCEPTION. that's a couple of millions people who can take advantage if you are lucky enough to live in these areas. Cavity insulation is just £99 to all NON over 70 / benefits in the same areas
The energy savings are substantial
The process is simple - contact me and I will arrange a surveyor visit to measure up. Work carried out within 6 weeks of survey with a full 25 year guarantee.
Warm front is a scheme for a private company (eaga - how are actually very very good indeed) to operate under the cert funding pot.
My company operates Under numerous pots of funding similar to this.
Why is loft insulation FREE to everyone?
- we get paid by the cert funding for every house we complete
- the rate we get paid is so significant there is no need to charge customers a contribution - eg a typical 3 bed semi loft is 50sqm. We get paid over £210 to install to this type of property by the funding. Gross profit around £50 a property. We complete 40-50 daily.
- our biggest problem is getting people to believe us as it does sound too good to be true!
Including in the service is draught proofing, tank jacket and pipe lagging insulation all free of charge.
Any questions please ask.
I would be delighted if Martin would include this on his weekly bulletin (as in previous weeks he has given British gas a great advert saying all their customers can get insulation for free - when actually ANYONE can through ourselves!)0 -
Everything I've read on this section suggests that Watchdog and Ann Robinson should become involved. Or have they already?"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

Don't be put off by the bad press!! I had a new boiler fitted on the scheme 4 years ago. They fitted the boiler where I wanted it and it has never gone wrong. We go a dry joint that can happon in any plumbing job they fixed it the same night!
The guys who fitted mine was a dad and son team from Wales and they where great. I did not sign up for the extended call out service and save the money in the bank.
