no standing charge tariff and overpayments

Options
Hello
I have just received bills for my gas and electricity that have been estimated at a level way over the used amount. How they do this, I don't know, they even have a statement at the bottom that says that the usage this time last year was way less than what they estimated this year.

Anyway. As I am on a NSC tariff, my thinking is that I am better off if I pay this huge bill now, as most of it will be at the discounted rate. The next bill, I'll have zero (or very little) to pay at the high rate.

Am I allowed (forgetting ethics perhaps?) to do this? I could be someone who never checks their meter.

Cheers
Al

Forgetting ethics, it is very easy to get away with. If a subsequent meter read catches you out they are unlikely to rebill to an earlier period, they will only do it over the three months.
