Got pulled by the police 2 months ago.
They found my licence had been revoked many years ago.
My car was impounded.
I re-applied to DVLA and immediately got a fresh card type licence full with no points. They had no explanation as to why the licence was revoked as it happened in the 90's.
My insurance company have confirmed I was technically driving without insurance because of the licence situation. They have despite talking to DVLA decided not to renew my insurance when it expires next month.
I have never had an accident or made a claim.
I have now been refused insurance.
I am possibly going to court on the basis of driving without a licence and insurance.
Help!

Well for starters what date did your licence get 'revoked'? I assume this isn't due to any motoring offence that you may have committed and forgotten about (100mph through a residential street, mowing down a group of people waiting for a bus etc....). If not then I can only put it down to a clerical error at the DVLA clicking the 'revoked' box next to your name or something similar.0

 What does the wording on your policy say?
Off the top of my head, I've got a feeling that the usual policy wording is something along the lines of "holds, or has held and is not disqualified from holding, a licence of the appropriate class".*
So presumably before the licence was revoked you held the appropriate class of licence?
You were not disqualified from holding the licence, as your application was successful (revocation isn't the same as disqualification).
You may be able to argue that you were insured. Certainly to a court, although you'll probably have to accept that you'll be looking for a new insurance company.
Mind you, I wouldn't fancy ticking the "have you ever had insurance refused or cancelled?" box when you come to renew. That sounds expensive.
*That might just be commercial policies, insuring a number of drivers, so you'll need to check yours. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
My licence was revoked sometime in 1998, I seem to remeber loosing a licence and obtaining a duplicate then getting 3 points. I then found my original paper licence and sent that to the court who wrote on it SP30 £60 fine and 3 points, but as I had obtained a duplicate licence it seems DVLA were not aware that the most recent licence had been surrendered, I had in fact surrendered to the court the original licence which I had found after the duplicate had been issued.
Together with me moving home at the time and working abroad I missed the letter from DVLA warning about the revokation.
I returned the licence to the DVLA which had the ( now void) points on it in order to recieve my current clean card type licence.
I suspect I will be looking at a potential IN10 conviction despite actually having a full clean licence and always paying my insurance premiums with a protected NCB of 9 years+!0 -

Try not to worry until you know the outcome. Obviously there are no guarantees, but in this situation I doubt you would be prosecuted for the insurance offence, especially if you can prove the above, and show that you were genuinely unaware of the revocation. Keep your fingers crossed, and you might be lucky. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

have to agree with you....0 -
Thanks, looks like I need to re-read my insurance policy wording, showing at least my insurance certificate and clean licence I would hope in the eyes of the magistrates differentiate me from those driving having never taken a test and with no intention of buying insurance.0

The DVLA are getting good at this one !
My son had his licence "revoked" by DVLA, his (work) vehicle was impounded by the police - despite DVLA having immediately admitted it was done in error.
DVLA then said it would take 3 weeks to issue a new licence - by which time his vehicle would he been crushed !!
His MP's office saved the day - and his truck !!
DVLA: zero out of ten.
Police: one out of ten. (they were polite)0 -
Don't drive to the court.0

But what is all this nonsense with crushing roadworthy vehicles?
If the vehicle has a sale value that is above its scrap price, then it should be sold and not scrapped.
Don't these wasters realise that we are in a recession and we've got a £50m Royal Wedding to pay for?0
