fire doors and extensions

A friend of mine was saying that he wants to do a loft and ground floor extension this summer (council brent) but one builder has said that he will need to change all doors through the house and the frames to fire doors.

Is this correct?

    yeah maybe.

when I did mine a little while back, I dont recall this requirement. He said the extra charge from the builder was over £2,500 and he would have to change all his lovely Victorian doors. None of those round to quote had mentioned it.
