Linking Blackberry to computer via USB

I’ve got a blackberry 8900 and im trying to transfer songs from my old phone onto it.

I’ve already taken the songs from the old phone and stuck them on my laptop but when I try and connect my phone up to the computer via USB port the computer is unable to find it.

Do you need to do something special in order to link a blackberry up to a computer?

Look in Options --> Memory --> What are the settings:

"Mass Storage Mode support"
"Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected"

set to?

You may also need to install the Blackberry Desktop software in order to pick up the 8900 drivers. My Windows 7 install used to just pick it up and run but the XP install just nags about unknown device.

Beware that when using the BB desktop software, you do need the config for your particular phone model.
