there is, anyone who passed their test after 1997 has to pass a towing test before they can tow anything, it came into force at the same time as the removal of the right to drive 7.5 tonne vehicles on a car licence just not many people know about it.

i only found out by chance, i passed my test in 1999 so will need a licence to tow, yet i have a towbar on my vehicle...hmmm...maybe i could sell it to this idiot...lol

Thats not entirely true, you can tow but there are some strict rules.
    eg.
Combined weight (max authorised Mass) of of trailer and car no more then 3.5T

I know customers can be a massive pain, especially arsey ones who read the 'consumer rights' forum and go armed misapplying law with threats and bluster. However, using all the figures which have come to light, if offering to go halves on a towbar (lets say £500 according to people here) rescued the sale, then that's a 2% hit, which I would hope/expect is lower than the GP on a caravan!

Yes, the guy is clearly a nob, but he's a nob with £12k it might have been possible to rescue. That's all I was thinking.

nope he is a nob without 12k, he had already paid for the van:T

Just thought I would update you,

the nice man probably got fed up with CAB laughing at him and got his mate(who has a towbar) to pick the caravan up:rotfl::rotfl:

  • Does your mate own a towtruck?

If so, he might be able to earn a few quid recovering the caravan out of a ditch when the new owner finally gets a towbar on his car.
