Hi there,
I was hoping that with the collective power of fellow MSE's anyone intrested in joining SKY might PM people on this board with to be sent a referral link so that they can get a FREE SKY+ Box. I would be very grateful if anone joining SKY would PM me so that I can get a box for my partner!
Many thanks for your help!

I wonder if many people on here would recommend you touch Sky+ with a bargepole! Most of the people would recommend an HDD freeview box for a one off fee, as Sky+ is terrible. After a year, our box broke down and they charged us £60 for a new one, even though there was nothing we did, and apparently after reading the threads started here, this has happened to more customers than not! Plus they're customer service is appalling, unless you are unaware of the 'Turn it off, leave it for 10 minutes, turn it back on again' help, in which case its invaluable!!
Sorry, to sum up after wasting your time, i'm not interested in getting sky+ again, sorry, but good luck!0 -
Check the referrers thread. I think I saw someone offering to do this.0

Ihave just upgraded to hd from sky + and i have to say that SKY + is magic i love it. I actually dont get time to watch too much TV with kids and work and it actually makes my subscription worth while again and it means i can record my fave programmes while my husband subjects me to more damned footie.
I would however say avoid HD for a little while unless you are a national geo fan as other than that there is just not enough broadcast in HD yet to warrant it

Sky+ is one of the best inventions over recent years, yes it has its glitches but for the most part its trouble free, you cant really compare with freeview as that has only has about 5 decent channels
If it breaks down just threten to cancel and they will come out for free you dont have to pay £60;)0 -
Recently lost all my channels for some reason? Anyway little bit of a trick is to press "Services" followed by "0" and then "1" then "select". This gets you into the engineers menu where you can reset your box. Careful which you choose as you can lose all your sky+ recordings!0

I have had a look at another thread and the cost if you pressure them is £50. Is it worth that much do you think? It is better to be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt!0

Is it worth it?
If my Sky+ broke down today, I'd order another tomorrow. This really is the best thing to happen to TV since the change from B+W to colour, its that good.
I couldn't bear to go back to having to watch TV at the times and dates dictated by the broadcasters, I just sky+ anything I fancy in about 2 seconds flat and keep it until I decide when I want to watch it. Its Brilliant.0 -

Would they? I'm a SKY+ customer and I love it. Everyone that I know that has SKY+ also thinks it's fantastic.
As your box broke after a year and was no longer under warranty it's not surprising you were charged for a replacement. If your freeview box breaks out of warranty I'd be very surprised if you got a free replacement for that.Marillion - A Better Way of Life.0 -
There is a difference though gazbert. With Sky you're paying them a fair sum every month to watch their channels which is where they make their money. The box merely facilitates that, it's in their interest for you to have a working box so you can pay them money for content.
When my box packed up a few months back, they tried to charge me for a visit and I simply explained that I wasn't preparted to pay them for the privilege of then paying them £30 a month.
They quickly agreed and replaced the box FOC.0
