Question re:egg money wrong total

Hi Can any one help me out with this?

I do my day to day shopping using an egg money card and every Tuesday and Friday do my banking to check nothing untoward gone on egg card or out of my bank account. This Tuesday my Egg card balance was £3 over what I tallied it up to be and I have checked umpteen times and have no other payments going out so far as I know. Now I have noticed in the past that sometimes Egg reckon it up wrong but its normally rectified within a day or two. This time I thought I'd wait and see and also allow other transactions to go on to see if it sorts itself out, but after both a debit transaction and a credit transaction going on to the account the amount they reckon it to be is still £3 more than I reckon it to be/it actually should be. Obviously if this doesn't sort out within a week I will email them securely and get clarification but I just wonder, has this happened to others before?

What I have noticed is that my transactions get added on after 9:30p.m.
However the total does not get updated until the next day.

I would send them a secure message.

Are you looking at your available balance?

If all the actual individual spend items are as you expect and the previous balance has been cleared in full, then it may be that you have bought petrol at a pay-at-pump outlet and three test £1 have been initiated but will not be completed and will then drop out of your available balance calculation.

Hi there, just to update: Russe11 I think you are absolutely right!! Although the 'missing' extra £3.00 has still not been given a transaction name yet on my statement (so balance is £3 higher with no explanation) I have now realised it is likely a £3 fee I incurred when I spent £5 on 2 charity raffle tickets via ROGAVI whom the banks consider a gambling site. Really annoyed with my self as I normally do my level best to avoid interest fees etc!!! That's what comes of being charitable in the small hours when over-tired...should have been charitable in the daylight hours and used my DEBIT card!!!!! gggggrrrrrr- how completely stupid of me!!!! Oh well, you live to learn I suppose- another lesson then!! but still DOH!!!!!!!

Thanks to all for your responses and time, very helpful as always!!

And thank you, too, for not getting all indignant and self righteous over this being "The banks" problem for charging you "incorrectly".

You have no idea how many people come on here throwing their toys out of the pram, resultant from a perfectly legitimate charge. Pat on the back for your outlook :o

Awww thank-you, that made me blush :o. However, isn't it a sign of the times when we have to congratulate a person for accepting their own culpability in a situation!!! I so know what you mean though, as I see that lack of assuming any personal responsibility for money issues (and other) a lot in my life,(and also within my family!!). It really annoys me as I'm very old school and believe that the old adage 'neither a borrower nor a lender be' is bang on. Not too say I haven't borrowed but I know exactly who that's down to (me) and what my responsibilities are (pay it back)- there's way too many 'victims' around now IMO.

BTW Still annoyed that I wasted £3 on fees when I could have either avoided entirely or have better spent on a donation to one of a million worthy causes- but it has to hurt to have an impact and even a wasted £3 hurts me!!!!

Thanks again for your kind words :D

Some card companies deduct a cash advance fee should you get a refund from the vendor the transaction took place.

So could be possible to complain to vendor, get refund, then re purchase using a debit card.

I have been told that Barclaycard do not treat some gambling operator transactions as cash advances, maybe there are other operators out there also. To add, citigroup do not allow transactions to gaming related companies at all.

I think I'm just going to have to suck it up and learn from it as, once I cottoned on to where I thought I'd incurred a fee, I went through the process again to check whether it was my mistake or theirs and there was indeed a great big whacking notice saying that some credit cards treated any transactions done on that site as gambling, and although they didn't list Egg as one of the banks they knew to do this, they did advise paying by debit card!! Like I said it was late of a night when I did it, and it was only when you (Russe11) said it was likely a cash advance fee, did the vaguest of memories of such a notice flit into my mind!! Lesson of the day, read and absorb any great big whacking notices laid out in life!! Quite Important that one I feel, as this time I only lost £3 next time I ignore, I might walk onto a train track, fall through thin ice etc and so forth ;) !!!!
