Plastering advice

Hi,

I'm getting my hall plastered and thought I'd tie it in with my holiday i.e. go on holiday the day after the work has been completed. However, a friend has told me that I'd need to leave my windows open to "air" the house!!! Any thoughts?

You don't have to, but plaster gives off a lot of water as it dries so you might get condensation issues if you don't.

The above statement is fine. But don't go on from that to decide you need to actively dry plaster. Plaster does not dry, it cures, which is a chemical reaction which absorbs water. Drying too enthusiastically is not good for new plaster.

Plastering on our house renovation was done in the middle of winter, and we weren't living in the house at the time, so it had to be completely shut up when builders not there. We visited when we could at weekends and opened ALL the windows while we were there. We did have loads of condensation, but it cleared OK, the plaster dried off OK so far as we can make out so far (we still haven't moved in). It probably just took a bit longer to dry out. And at this time of year it's likely to dry out a lot faster than ours did!
