auction price seems a bit high

I've another one of those items that is currently selling at far more than it is worth. It is quite worrying, I've re read my description, checked the photos and I can't see why people are bidding so high. I even added some extra text to the listing just stating again exactly what this was in case I said it wrong the first time.

Very odd and it is making me nervous.

Is it a 'classic bidding war', where two bidders have completely lost sight of what they're bidding for and are completely focused on winning? ...I've seen that a few times! :)

I've now got 4 bidders in on it but I can't see anything that I've missed that might make this rather tatty item valuable.

The last time I did this my item went for a dizzy amount, but after the buyer had received it she emailed to tell me that it was a piece from a very good name in antiques and the makers mark was so small that I must have overlooked it. I had a great price for it but she had also got a bargain so we were both happy.

  • Relax - that's what ebay is for - great place to sell things - usually a terrible place to pick up a bargain!

It's the "on eBay so it must be cheap" process.

I get the same with car auctions - its littered with lots of private folk now who think that cos its in an auction "it must be cheap..."
  • I love it when this happens - I think that's partly what makes selling on ebay so addictive. The things that i've sold over the years which are on target for an ok price or I think no-ones going to pay more than a couple of pounds, then when I look to see what they finally sold for make me go AAGGHHH!
(I end up dancing round the living room singing 'we're in the money... laa laa laaaa!').

I listed some girls character dungarees that were worn on the bottoms (due to rubbing on the floor). I listed them at 99p and they sold for £9.40 so was quite surprised as I thought they would only go for £3 or £4. I added photo's of the damage and also mentioned it on the description and I've got positive feedback saying they were very happy with the item so all was well.

Let us know what the item sells for, if you have 4 people outbidding each other it should be interesting.
