Plenty of "reduced bargains" today in my local.
Large joint of pork for only £1.99 (in freezer until next Sunday).
Loads of wholemeal hot cross buns - 20p for 6 (also in freezer and great for toasting), no bread though.
Tuna steaks etc, also available.
Just after 3pm on a Sunday gives great offers in my local, the staff do hold quite a bit back...........but they well deserve it.

You can use the hot cross buns for bread pudding as well if you have no dried fruit or mixed spices
.
I got a Devonshire Free Farm whole chicken (a title similar to that) for £2.50 instead of £5. I cooked it when I got home and it was lush :T.
I had found the chicken in a RTC section on the meat aisle.Competition Wins:

Yes, and I sometimes use what I believe was a Jamie Oliver tip??
Spread jam/marmalade over the cut-in-half buns and put in an ovenproof dish, cover with custard and bake - cheap and simple, especially with buns at 20p for 6. :money:

You will think I am mad, but I put bacon in my HXBs. You may turn your nose at this, but how many of you put brown sauce in your bacon butties? Brown sauce is fruity and spicy, like HXBs.
They are lovely.0 -
I might try the bacon tip....................but not on Good Friday. lol

I guess they are there to take money and if you are looking for chicken and it's reduced you want it with the chicken also encourages aisle browsing lol. It's only rock and roll but I like it.0

The reduced stuff in the chiller cabinet in my local sainsburys generally looks like it has been tipped in from a great height. Upside down and boxes all bashed, it is about 10p cheaper. I got the general impression that the staff didnt want to sell it for some reason.
The meat reduced section is still there, in fact it has been labelled now and it wasn't before, however it was empty when I went there this week, I out this down to the fact I was shopping at a different time of day, but maybe not now I have read earlier threads. Have had a few bargains including some fantastic gressingham duck breasts that were half price and really nice. The reduced meat is usually just tipped in as well, but not as bashed and untidy as the chiller stuff.0 -

I find the reason for the messy way they are often "dumped from a height" is normally due to members of the general public deciding they don't want something and actually throwing it back onto the shelves! I've seen this happen too many times to count, it would seem many people have less then little respect for others, that someone else may want that item. Have approached people about it too, confirming my belief that these people probably live in something similar to a landfill site- they shrug their shoulders and don't seem to care.0 -
Nipped in to one sainburys on the way home at 4.30pm(ish) yesterday.
Still has 3 different chiller sections for reduced to clear.
Picked up a piece of beef for £2.50 proper pice £7 ish. piece if pork £2.60 full price £8 ish. Two gammon steaks 65p nornally £2.
Couple of icebergs lettuces for 10p each at the front of the store.
Now have all the meat as I got some other stuff nicely stashed in my freezer.
Going to sulk now as husband will not let me have a bigger freezer. Says I will fill that one up and then need another one :rotfl:
