You mean the sunday just gone?

Yes, hence me saying 'changed as of Sunday'.

I must have imagined the trolley of fresh fruit and veg reduced at the entrance. And the three reduced clear areas dotted around the chillers.

The couple of times I ventured in this week.

Perhaps you did imagine it, I've no idea. But in case you weren't, it could be the store had more of the product that could fit on the shelves and they wanted rid of it. Perhaps the store manager has decided that the new company policy could be amended slightly for their store, I have no idea.

So just to clarify, as of Sunday 10th April, Sainsburys changed their policy in regards to product reductions.

That's gonna get costly. When I worked at the meat counter in JS, I used to struggle to shift stuff if we marked it up on the normal shelves - most people (maybe weirdly) if they go to grab an item, and it has a reduced ticket, will just grab the one behind instead. Only a certain kinda person actually buys reduced items - and keeping them all together just makes life easier for those people. I can remember chasing people with packs of whole monkfish tails going "It's 5p! Please buy it! It was £25!" - they'd still just keep walking :(

Oh I agree with you. The new policy does seem like it would be costly for them, but apparently when it was trialled in some stores it actually reduced costs.

Sainsburys policy on reductions changed as of Sunday; this applies to Fresh, Produce and Bakery only.

Reductions can only be done from 1pm (mon-sat) and 11am (sun) and the product must remain in its original shelf position. 2 hours before store closing, any remaining reduced products will then be moved to the reduction bay and reduced further.

The code checkers hours have changed. Not happy with this and I think this will increase wastage. I have to look at the figures in my store.

Instore bakery products are sold off for 67% of their original price to a company that anaerobically digests them to genererate energy.
It seems a shame to use perfectly good food for this just because they can make more money this way than they can selling it to their customers rather than sending their actual waste food products which would be just as well suited to the purpose.

It was discussed briefly on the sainsbury forum about a year ago.

They did used to reduce the instore bakery. Got huge tiger loaves for 10p for my parents.

    Its a shame really.

OP maybe your store has decided to "lose" the reduced section and use it for normal foods eg extended an area of fresh that was on the small side,

It seems that managers are doing their own thing then.

As two different stores approx 8 miles apart still doing the same old thing this week.

Reduced fruit and veg at the front of the store. And one has 3 different reduced to clear areas in the chillers. The other store has one.

I find it strange that dispatches from head office has been ignored.

Still had a reduced section (not clearly marked other then the then emtpy shelves) in three different Sainsburys stores I visited this week, maybe its an optional change, imagine them going back to normal if things stop selling especially as it will take additional staff to go reduced-food-hunting two hours before closing (as mentioned above).

Anyone know how that 2 hour rule works with the open 24 hour stores?

My local sainsbobs at Hempstead Valley used to be great just after 9.00.a.m. on a Monday morning Now its rare that you see anything reduced at all and the reduced section is usually empty most of the time.Perhaps they got wise to the fact that folk were going there specifically to buy reduced stuff and nothing else .I try not to go to the supermarket that often anyway if I can help it .My local huge revamped Tescos is a nightmare to walk around as its so big and I am worn out by the time I have got half way around it.I use my local butchers and greengrocers now as the bigger the shop the more its put me off .I am lucky that where I live there is a Wilkinsons so anything I want I can get there for cleaning ect

Plenty of "reduced bargains" today in my local.

Large joint of pork for only £1.99 (in freezer until next Sunday).
Loads of wholemeal hot cross buns - 20p for 6 (also in freezer and great for toasting), no bread though.
    Tuna steaks etc, also available.

Just after 3pm on a Sunday gives great offers in my local, the staff do hold quite a bit back...........but they well deserve it.
