17 yr old debt!!!!

hi all,

can any one tell me if a 17 yr old credit card debt (2600 quid in 1992) is still owed, i tried to pay some off in 2007 (around 1k) and then the CSA took me for 24k in the last 4 years, leaving me pennyless! now i have cleared my CSA debt i am now being chased for the remaining amount for the credit card, does the statute of limitation apply here, i paid some money in 2007....did i screw up????? heeellllpppp!

Unfortunately 'statue barred' as you refer only applies when contact has been absent for 6 years, to acknowledge the debt as you did in 2007 has kept it alive.

if you paid nothing between 1992 and 2007 then it is 'statute barred' nothing can reset the clock if there has been a clear 6 year period of non payment with no written acknowledgement.

if you were making regular payments between 1992 and 2007 with no clear 6 year period of non payment, then the debt will not become statute barred until 2013

you need to find out what payments were made in between
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

What part of the UK do you live in? (which country)

If there was ever a 6year* period where you made no payments to the debt and didn't write to acknowledge it, and assuming that they have never taken you to court and obtained a CCJ then the debt is statute barred. This means that you don't need to pay them and once you send a letter to say you don't intend to then they have to stop chasing you. The debt still exists but you cannot be taken to court.

    *its 5years in scotland.
